cluster/tail lights

OK here goes...

One day I went to put my lights on and the guage pod did not light up. The tailights were also out. So a checked the manual and sure enough they run on the same fuse. When I checked all the fuses under hood none were blown. So I checked the fuse box under the dash and the fuse that controlls the dash lights was not blown but it was not getting any spark either. So I got a small wire and wrapped it around one of my other fuses and used it to jump a charge to the dead hole and sure enough my dash lights and tail lights came on. So I have done this for a about a week because I work at night and I need my lights. Now here is where it gets weird I get in my car two days ago and guess what?? When I pull the light switch the dash and tail lights light up on their own.

i think i can solve your problem because that same thing happend to me, only i could play with the switch to make them come on....Take off the light knob, take off your plastic cover thats around the gauges..You'll find the actual headlight switch with a harness plugged into it. Check that thing out and see if its in good condition (mine somehow melted and the pinning was very loose) replace that headlight switch and it Should solve your problem

its either headlights only (no sidemarkers, taillights, or guages) or only guages and taillights correct?

They quit again last night.

Yes I usually just have my headlights.

How do you take your Cluster out. This is the reason I don't have any white face guages anything with the dash scares me.

Not too long after I bought my '91 Bronco several years ago, I was driving at night and all of the lights went off for about 5-10sec. then they came back on again. The next day when I was checking for the problem, I found that connector was melted and had some burn marks. I immediately bought a new headlight switch and the harness pigtail. You want to check this out so you don't end up the victim of an electrical fire.

If you're unsure of the order on removing things, buy a Chilton or Haynes manual for your car.
