Hey guys I am going to be dropping in my engine and tranny this weekend. Problem is I need the bolts that mount the pressure plate to the flywheel. I went to ford for them. I was told I need 6, but unfortunately they each cost $7.50. Is there any cheaper alternative that you guys recommend. I don't want to pay $50 for a bolt and nut. That is ridiculous.

They're expensive, but they are a very high grade bolt. Think of what there job is.

Unfortunately, I can't help you on any alternatives.

I know but they can't be stronger than grade 8. I mean its not like they stick aircraft bolts in there.

if you've got an early flywheel, 5/16"x1" NC grade 8 or 9's are what you want. These are available at the chain home improvement stores and many other places locally. The ones for the later 5.0 flywheels are the same length but are 8mm, I don't know the thread count, but it's close to NC in std threads

Thanks D. Hearne that is what I was looking for. So i will go metric since my flywheel is from a 5.0. If anyone could chime in and give me the length I would need that would be awesome.

Same length as the earlier ones. Or in metric, 25.4mm

I would purchase a set of ARP fasterners. I think that they are equal to a grade 10. Everytime I need new bolts I always use ARP. Quality is worth the price. They are most likely cheaper price than Ford.

Yup,
ARP is the way to go. $26.79 at Summit.

Man, I saw pics of the aftermath of a clutch explosion. There was a huge hole in the floor board and it went up thru the cowl, lucky the lady racing didn't get her feet cut clean off as it went up instead of sideways. $50 is cheaper than learning to walk with no feet.
