I got a FRPP HD clutch installed recently. I've been easy on it even though the installer (who said he's been instalilng clutches for 16 years) says there's no break in. I asked a mechanic friend of mine and he says there's no break in either.

However, I've read here that a break in is necessary for ~500 miles. But I've also read that it isn't true...

Anyone here get a new clutch and NOT break it in? Good/bad results?

...maybe thats why hes been installing them for 16 years. "Oh no, no break in...*under breath* see ya next week... :D Im not too sure, but when the dealership put a new one in mine, they didnt even slightly mention break in period and havent had any ill effects besides one oddity that cured itself.

I had a FRPP KC clutch put in mine about 2 months ago and my braking in prosedure was to powershift it all the way out of the shop :D . Truth be told i have had a little bit of a problem from a noisy TOB, but no problem with the acctual clutch itself. grips like a monster.

I think the 'break-in' period is to allow the entire disc to have the new finish worn evenly away. It happens quite naturally just by driving the car in a normal manner.

If you were to scuff it deeply in ONE place on the disc, ie: a hard hookup\launch on the new clutch disc surface, it could take a looong time to get rid of the resulting chatter. Kinda' like new brakes really, only there very easy to break in evenly...especially with ABS!

So just try not to scuff the disc until the entire surface is 'burned in' a little. Actually, if you start getting a slight chatter during break-in (common), a couple of good high rpm launches and full throttle power shifts WILL HELP to smooth it out for you.

Fauk da break in period. Im to impatient fo that! I just had a centerforce dual friction installed last Friday. I am going to the strip 2morrow..heh
A guy I know had a centerforce installed to. LOL when he left the shop with the car he did a burn out onto the street and then chirped 2nd and 3rd! and the clutch is still fine!
