Clutch chatter on my wife's 01 with a King Cobra clutch. Happens in 1st or Reverse but not all the time. Feels like the motor or tranny is gonna jump out of its mounts - could this be the issue - broken mounts? How do I check these? (Kinda hard to visually check em) Anything else I could/should check?

Thanks!

Already have the Steeda adjustable cable, quad and firewall adjuster. So, you think I may need to mess with the adjustment? (i'm getting to be an old pro at this - lol!)

I have a 97 mustang GT with the same problem. I'm going to go get the flywheel rechecked cause the place that did it took off a lot, left it sitting in the water too long and didn't bother to say anything. Only having 63 miles on it. I now have hard spots on both the clutch and flywheel with only the outside edge of the pressure plate actually being used.

when i mess around with mine it helps.....it may be a clutch disk/flywheel surface problem though...either way chatter really doesnt hurt anything

Mine would make some noises. Turns out the dust shield was loose.

I beg to differ the chatter doesn't do anything to the clutch. I had my flywheel resurfaced... supposidly they did it.. Well only after 63 miles of driving, with the King Cobra setup, and the flywheel and pressure plate have hard spots from being heated up really bad. One place was able to get a .006 feeler guage under a straight edge on the pressure plate and .005 across the flywheel.

I'm having a guy out a dealer ship take a look at it later today to see if the whole flywheel is warped and that's what caused the problem.

I just had a king cobra clutch put in and the only thing I notice is a whistleing sound now and then but I was told its the fly wheel. I also notice that this clutch is so easy to engage I thought it would be stiffer, any thoughts?

Well, I need to prove they messed up. Their is ten thousands, 0.010, runout on the outter edges while there is six thousands, 0.006 runout near the inside. The outside half of the clutch disc is all that was making contact with the flywheel while the inside half of the flywheel and pressure plate is what got the hot spots. I can't get a straight answer from any shop in town on what it could be, but something is messed up.

The machine shop said they took off a lot, but couldn't tell me how much except alot is all they can say. I've been told if they took off too much the pressure plate can't travel as far or something to that effect and would cause a problem.

If I can find out how think a new flywheel is and compare how a new is to this old one then I might have an idea of how much was taken off. On the same hand though since it's all cable operated it shouldn't make a difference how much they took off is what I've been told.

Anyone know how thick a new flywheel is? I've called the dealers and places in town and no one can tell me cause they don't know. My current flywheel is about 2-3 CD's thick at the max.

It's lighter than the Spec2 it replaced, but heavier than the stocker in mine.
