Clutch electrical crap???

So my stang isnt running right. When it is in neutral, the idle speed goes up and down about every 10 seconds. When I put it in gear the car jerks REALLY badly. Before it would do this every so often. It usually worked when I took my foot all the way off the cutch. So could it have something to do with the clutch elecrical stuff? I looked under near the clutch and there is this plastic thing with a plastic rod that goes in and out when you press the clutch. There are two connectors comming out of it. One I know goes to the ignition as the safety thing but what does the other one do?

Im not even sure it is the clutch though. What else could it be? It was running fine the other day.

One of the switches on the clutch is the starter safety interlock. The other is the cruse control cutoff.

thats some great info but my surging idle actually has somewhat gone away. The main problem is the jerky driving.

Is it kinda hard to get into gear? It maybe jerking because the clutch isnt completely disengaging, so the engine is constantly having clutch slippage holding the idle down untill is is put into neutral. If that makes any sense to ya. It may just be the IAC going bad. My idle changes a little tiny bit when I press the clutch down. And the jerk, could be you putting the trans in gear with the clutch still engaged a litttle bit and the synchrose will have ahard time lining everything up. To test to see if you clutch isnt completely disengaging, put the car in first, put the clutch to the floor and see if the car rolls while the clutch is pressed while in gear. A stretched cable may cause this.

Unresolved idle problems will often cause poor low speed performance and rough running.
