clutch problem

today I went to push my clutch in and all I heard was a snap followed by the clutch pedal goin to the floor. At first I thought it was the cable until I looked under the dash by the pedal and saw a white piece of plastic. It's sorta like a rod and theres a small collar that slides on it and clicks. When I push the collar up against the pedal arm it holds the pedal in normal position but the slightest amount of pressure causes it to slide back down and the pedal drops. Is this piece my problem and if so what's it called? If it's something I can get aftermarket can I get any good suggestions?

sounds like the stock clutch quadrant broke

you can pick up an aluminum one and an adjustable firewall adjuster from UPR for a decent price

i get to install mine this weekend , along with the cable.

What about maximum motorsports? Is theirs a good piece? and how hard is this to install? I'm stuck down at school now till I can get it fixed and have very little tools and no jack

if your just doing the quadrant, you dont need a jack. you are going to have to remove the front seat unless your a midget. i think there are two clips that need to be removed, then it slides off. mine came with instructions. the haynes manual has some more pictures to give you a better idea.

THere are two hairclips which come off. Then get that stock stuff off there, The new quad slides on the two pegs. Put the two hairclips back in.

You might have to get under the car and undo the cable if you find that the cable is too taught when you go to install the quadrant.

The Fiore pieces are reportedly VERY nice. Good luck.

MM stuff is pretty good too


your gonna wanna get an adjustable firewall piece since aftermarket quadrents arent adjustable like the stock one is

install isnt too hard, just takes time

HAHAHAHA!!!! That's funny. Every Hanes picture I have seen has some crap drawing, and a description that reads: bolt, nut, etc. Absolutley good for nothing!

I'm on a very limited budget. Is the firewall adjuster needed??

Because the adjustment is made at the quadrant and pawl on a stock set-up, you do need some means of adjusting the clutch cable. The FWA is the normal means if using a stock (non-adjustable) cable.

You can:
use an adjustable cable. They are not nearly as good (IMHO) as the stock cable, and that would be an extra expense.

A FWA can be had for relatively cheap (20 bucks new for older models as I recall). The Extreme unit I used was under 35 bucks plus shipping IIRC.

There are also kits out there which offer a quadrant and FWA for not much money. UPR is a place to check. I was picky about the quad and FWA I wanted so I did not do that, but one of those kits should work well and can be had cheap.

Wrong, mine has pictures, not a crap drawings. good for something IMO. maybe you have a manual for your car, not the 1994-2003 manual.

i bought a steeda triple hook with the firewall adjuster a year ago and havent had a problem out it yet. the good thing about have both the adjustable cable and the firewall adjuster is that you set your cable adjustment and you should havent to mess with it again. all the rest of your clutch adjustments can be made off the firewall adjuster. imo i would make sure to get both, then you have more flexibility with your setup if need be.

i had the bbk setup and there ****ty cable broke so i ended up getting a steeda cable.
