what would cause premature clutch chatter? My clutch was installed about 2 months ago and its already starting to chutter. It also screatches if i shift to hard into 3rd gear. I gave it 1000 miles break in (more than needed) and babied it to make sure she was broken in well. But now just two months later, its chattering like hell after driving for a while, or if im carying passengers (god damn car cant pull a little more than its own weight ). Its a King Cobra clutch and the fywheel was resurfaced when it was installed as well as a new pilot bearing, fork, and cable.

Also, is the 03/04 cobra clutch a King Cobra clutch?? My buddy has an 03 snake and says its the same clutch. Only reason i doubt is because the damn thing is failing in my ***** 5.0 therefore its hard to picture these things turning 500hp with no problem, lol.

p.s my previous clutch was a RAM clutch. It did this as well. Started failing the same way.

The only things that come to mind with premature clutch chatter/failure are driving habits or possible contamination. Do you slip the clutch a lot or abuse it pretty frequently? Even just slipping it enough to hold it on a slight incline would cause enough heat to glaze it, and cause chatter. Just curious, so we can help ya out here. Sounds like you have a good handle on the installation, so I'm not going to point at contamination just yet.

Well said Matt. Your thoughts were along those of mine. I did not see a RMS listed (though it may have simply been omitted in the post).

yes, i do race this car on ocation at the track(about 7 runs on the clutch) so it does take abuse. Im just shocked that my friends 03 cobra can take the same abuse+300more hp than i have and not chatter nore screatching.

And just to point it out, the screatching when shifting hard happened before i abused this thing. I was like "sweet, gave it MORE than it needs to break in. Now lets let her rip.........*screach*........wtf!!!??"

omg, i forgot to mention. My car has always been wierd to drive. For instance, when you shift to 2nd , its not smooth. It makes anyone who drives it feel like a noob. As you release the clutch to give it gas, it goes, stops and goes again. I thought it was me, but its ONLY in my car. Any other car, i shift smooth like a champ. Anyone who drives my car, says it feels wierd. I thought this would all go away after i did the tranny job since EVERYTHING was replaced except the flywheel. Could the f/w be the issue????? Its all thats left literally.
