It has been getting worse for a little while now, but when I powershift mostly 2-3 shift I hear a strange squeek which I am not sure if it is my clutch.I used to be able to chirp third gear. Does a clutch make a noise like this when it is almost completely shot? Also if this is the problem how much time should I expect to have before needing to replace it?

The t45 tranny's are pretty weak, so I wouldn't powershift in the first place.

Is the chirping sound consistant and heard at idle? Does it go away when you push the clutch in?

if you only hear it when powershifting and its kinda like a quick squeal similer to tires breaking loose, yet more subtle, its the clutch slipping. and has nothing to do with it being shot or not.. enough power and any clutch will make that noise if its not grabbing

It could also be your belt slipping on the shift. Mine did that and i switched to a Gatorback belt...no more noise. Maybe it could also be the clutch or TOB though, im subscribing to find out as well

I'd have a squeak/squeal when I'd ship at higher RPM's in my 97. I just went and picked up a new belt, dayco polycog, and it doesn't do it anymore now. More then likely your belt just getting old.

Why do so many people say the tranny is weak? I have been banging gears on mine for 11 years with absolutly zero problems.
Of course I have been driving a stick for the better part of 30 years now and know how to use a manual and not ABUSE a manual.

And yes I think it is the serp belt slipping on the shift

I agree! I powershift mine all the time with no problems. The shift forks are a little weak, but a good shifter with positive stops will prevent you from slamming the gears too far and bending or breaking it.

I also agree.. I POUND my car and my T-45 has taken it. I powershift atleast several times a day.

BTW I also agree with the serp belt slipping.
