Can you just gut the factory butterflies, or do you need to replace the intake plates?

You'll want to replace the plates. They are only $95.

Ok, another question, how does the delete really help power? Seems like the whole purpose of them was to create turbulence for better power at low rpm's, does the removal only help high rpm power?

I can tell you that with the deletes and the brenspeed tune. The car gained power across the whole board. I have not dynoed in a while, but it felt like it had more power everywhere and better throttle response. Also I say no difference in fuel mileage.

So, no part-throttle losses?

To me it felt stronger across the board. Part-throttle, full throttle, excellent throttle response. It's the best and cheapest mod I've done.

If it is all the same, I'm going to keep mine and wait for the FAST intake manifold that should have the CMCV deletes built-in.

You go ahead and spend 800.00 for an intake to gain a suppossed 40HP!Yes,are intakes are just fine for street/track use! They have been used in upwards of 800-900HP!!!Do the delete plates and spend the rest of the $$$$ on something really worth while.Like suspension or an aluminum drive shaft!JMO though

I installed these plates over the holiday weekend ( got 'em for $65 plus shipping brand new, hehehehehe ) and everything went smoothly, install took about 45 minutes or so.

This morning, on the way to work, cruising about 65 or so, I gave it about 3/4 throttle to pass a car and the car went into fail-safe mode.....Thing just glided to a stop and I about ****. Three turns of the key it started back up and there was no light or any warning. The car ran fine to and from work....

I don't know if the plates have anything to do with that or not. I'm going to hook the predator back up to it and see if it throws a code or anything....All I know is that was pretty scary!

Did you reflash or tune your PCM with a calibration that deletes the IMRC functions?

Just ran the codes...last two ( there were several, such as injector circuit open, 1-8 ) were:

Throttle control actuator - forced engine shutdown

Throttle control actuator - loss of power

I cleared the codes and I'll see what it does. If I have to I guess I'll reflash the ECU....

Typically you need a custom tune when you install the delete plates just like with L/T headers. Most people I know have the delete plates & L/Ts done at one time so as to avoid visiting the tuner twice!

I just installed my Delete plates this weekend too. Love them!!! The car has no noticeable low RPM power loss, but what it gained in the top end is awesome. It pulls even harder now all the way across the RPM range. I can't wait to get my new rims and tires on it now. The 8's just aren't holding the car anymore.

I had custom tunes made to allow for the plates before I installed them.

I must respectfully disagree.. a custom tune is not required for IMRC delete plates ? I used to have the SCT X-Cal II 9415 preloaded tuner that provided an option under the end user adjustability menu for IMRC delete's
