I am planning to upgrade to Cobra brakes and had a question about painting them. I want to paint them a glossier black, instead of the gray-black that they come standard, and painting the "cobra" letters yellow to match my car. Would it be better to get the red calipers or the black calipers if I plan on painting them? It seems that the red ones are smoother, but I don't know which would be easier to paint over.
Thanks.

they should paint up just as easy either way. if you can before you install them have them powder coated, that will look a lot cleaner and won't mess up and flake. i just used calliper paint on my stock breaks and it looked great for a while, but with all the wheel cleaner and heat, even the duplicolor calliper paint chips. i'm hoping to do the cobra upgrade soon too and that's my plan at least. good luck

i think the black set is actually more expensive then than the red set..so go red

black with yellow lettering will look pretty sick...and original

Exactly, I do not like the look of red brakes on a yellow car. Night Shifter you're right, the red is cheaper than the black. I think I will just end up getting the red and painting over it. I used the duplicolor on my brother's car four years ago and it still looks perfect, so I'm not too worried about it. At least if the paint chips, it's easy to touch up.
Thanks fellas.

BTW, Great upgrade. I bought the front red cobra's and painted my rear's to match. To be honest, I don't think it makes a difference which color to start. If you wanted to go cheap, you could just buy the MACH calipers and paint them.

I still can't believe the GT came with such weak brakes; the 13 inch rotors make a huge difference. What paint did you use on your rears?

I haven't been able to find the Mach calipers anywhere for a decent price, only once in a while on eBay. Buyfordracing.com is still the cheapest I've seen for any of the 13 inch kits, unless you find a way to piece it together for less.
