I'm thinking of putting an '03-04 alum Cobra flywheel (2R3V-6375-AA) in my 2000GT. Anyone know its weight? Is is a good flywheel??

why not just get a Steel Flywheel made for your GT? The billet ones are only good for auto-x or high hp cars.

Some run the '03 Cobra clutch & flywheel in thier '96+. Most haven't had any problems. It grips well and has a good feel. You're going to need new pressure plate bolts. The 11" clutch uses a different size. The part number in the Ford computer is wrong (unless you want to find that out the hard way). The part number you need is N808969-S100. They come in a package of 6 from Ford.

You'll really enjoy the aluminum flywheel. Once the tach sweeps past 3500 the motor will rev much quicker than before. Total weight savings from the stock 96-98 stuff is 8 pounds, so 99+ should be the same, and you'll feel every bit of it.

Stock ’96 parts-
Flywheel = 21.5 lbs.
Pressure Plate = 18 lbs.
Clutch Disc = 4.5 lbs.
Total = 44 lbs.

’03 Cobra parts-
Flywheel = 12 lbs.
Pressure Plate = 19 lbs.
Clutch Disc = 5 lbs.
Total = 36 lbs.

I'd post stuff like this in tech tho if you want some solid opinions

Ooops. Thought I had put it under Tech. Guess not. Thanks for the good answer though. (I already have a 11" Centerforece Dfx clutch, so I should be good to go there.)

Uh oh. Re-open can of worms. I have read twice now that you cannot re-surface an '03-04 Cobra aluminum flywheel? Is that true?

You can resurface an '03-04 Cobra flywheel if it is not scarred too deeply or burned real bad I've learned. Anyway, I bought a pretty decent looking one for $30 that needs a simple turn (?). So, we'll see how that goes. Thanks guys.

My Fidanza has a replaceable steel plate that attaches to the Aluminum flywheel so for $30 i just have to bolt the new one on and no waiting for a machine shop.

Most aftermarket aluminum flywheels for 4.6 have replaceable friction plates. I don't know whether the '03-04 Cobra's is removable or not. I think they may be turning it while on the flywheel. Anyway, a couple have said they have done it and it worked fine. We'll see.
