I have mentioned this before, my brother is seriously looking into dropping the 93 5.0 for a 96-97 Cobra. Depending on price, he may have to drop to a GT. Can anybody tell me the differences between the stock Cobra and GT?

GT = 4.6L, 281ci, SOHC, 215HP/285 lb.-ft

Cobra:
4.6L 305HP DOHC 4V

GT:
4.6L 225HP SOHC 2V

Major power difference. The 96-98 GT's were plagued with poor-flowing cylinder heads. A common mod for 96-98 GT owners is a PI headswap (cylinder heads found on 99+ GT's)

The average 96-98 GT will dyno roughly 185-210rwhp/250-265rwtq stock and run high 14's/low 15's with the 5spd. There is also incredibly more potential in the 4V motor as opposed to the 2V.

As far as looks go:
Cobra has a different front bumper, hood, wheels, and rear bumper.

Basically.... Cobra >>>>> GT

cobras have much better cfm numbers than the GT's from what i read. i remember hearing about the 96-98 GT's sucking but some people actually spend the cash to make them worth it. im happy i got my 96 cobra and not a GT. im a GT fan but a cobra is one of a kind and will become collectors items in the future!

Dude, the 93 Cobra had different heads, roller rockers, a different cam, revised suspension and rear disc brakes, as compared to the GT/LX.

Yes, entirely different engine for the most part.

different heads? they only had like 35hp more i would think the intake could do that alone, o well i knew about the suspension and such i was just talking about the engine

i guess what i want to know is if i wanted to make a "replica" what will i have to do, first the engine, intake for sure, heads i guess, and everything in it? cam, rockers, ext, what about pistons and crank and stuff? would it be easier or cheaper to just buy a cobra? and i dont really care about suspension cause i dont need it to be exactly like a cobra i could get some aftermarket parts

Yep, it's an entirely different engine...The Cobras are an all aluminum DOHC 4.6L engine that's hand built and signed by two guys on the NICHE line at Ford. They also all come with 5 speeds, 3.27 rearends, white faced gauges, 17" wheels, leather interior(there were some cloth but they are rare), power everything, clear headlights, round foglights, best looking hood ever, and COBRA embossed in the bumper...But for the most part the big difference is the much more powerful engine...

yeah if u were to make a replica cobra, u might as well buy one instead. the price will equal either a used cobra or a good down payment on one somewhere.

Now, remember, the '96 M.Y. Cobra with the 4.6 DOHC engine had overheating problems that were not recalled, but there was a TSB that recommended that in hotter climates some revisions be made to the cooling system/radiator, etc. Other listers on other Cobra/Mustang sites have said that they've had overheating problems at high speeds as well, not just those cars in hotter (SW US) climates. It's an out of pocket expense. Some have gotten a Fluidine radiator and said their problem was solved. If anyone can find the title of that TSB, I'd be grateful. I did a search on Alldata, but couldn't find one that I thought would be it. If I could get the real word, I might start looking for a '96 Cobra instead of just maybe a '94 or '95 (the last of the 5.0 engine.)
Thanks
