that statement is false it was also in this eddition of car and driver. they state the 05 pulled a .87g and i went digging into old magazines to find the one on the cobra. june 2002 they say that the cobra pulls a .90g which is bettr so the 2005 doesnt have better handling they are sayin that for marketing purposes

"I can say the 2005 is a winner, if you compare its handling characteristics to the latest models you will be surprised that it handles even better than an IRS Cobra. Ford did a great job by improving the rear solid axle suspension to exceed the higher priced SVT IRS."

Of course it should be better, the product base has to evolve or it will die. It's sad to see this pattern, some not all 05 owners trying to justify their purchase and then try to berate the last gen Cobra because they possibly couldn't afford it to begin with. We need to talk about a straight line though once in a while because winding roads aren't everywhere :D.

Here's a few quotes from the article

My impression at the slalom is that the car handles great, but it is not well suited for the slalom due to the soft spring rates and slight front body roll. The car was pretty neutral, but it's longer wheelbase makes it difficult to take tight turns. Comparing it to a 99-2004 Mustang, the 2005 is more precise, and the extra power gets you out of the turns faster, but stiffer springs and a tighter front sway bar are a must if you want to get better lap times.

If you want your 2005 to handle like it is supposed to, be prepared to invest in wider wheels, better tires and a stiffer set of springs.

This is subjective. The author didn't provide any data to back this up.

The only downside of testing the new Mustang at that track was the altitude, at around 8,800 feet above sea level the engine is grasping for air, and we could sense lots less than the sea level advertised 300HP

Don't have this problem with a boosted car:D

If life were just a slalom, then the GT could keep up with the Cobra. Unfortunately, the roads I drive on are nothing like a slalom, and road holding (reference skid pad results) plays a larger role. And there are a bunch of straights, where the Cobra absolutely beats the GT like a redheaded stepchild.

But the GT is pretty.

I took a week off only to come back to the same tired arguement???

The 05 is awesome, great job Ford.

I love my Cobra and will not trade down to a GT even if it handles a little better.

Just like an owner of a 69 Boss wouldn't trade for my car or an 05 either.

Enjoy your car and shut up.

You,re The Greatest Ever because you have an 05.

There, I said it. Now let's move on.

There is a STOCK BLOCK '03 Cobra putting down 990whp. You lose.

BTW, I love the '05, but just because one magazine says it slaloms better it not an indication that it is better than arguably the Baddest Factory Production Mustang ever built.
