This is the first time I've seen an MM 3-link come [out] for a Cobra IRS.

I’ve campaigned the car for 4 years with the TA/PHB setup. It’s great and I’d recommend it to anyone. Rear grip was never an issue but I found difficulty putting power down mid-corner. The car was pretty much point and shoot. My region has multiple venues and one is much smaller. This means the courses are very technical and not suited for the car.

My buddy that built that IRS is a drag race guy looking for more straight line grip. We cooked up a straight trade and here we are.

Specs of the IRS:
  1. 2003 IRS
  2. Thunderbird differential housing
  3. Truetrac differential
  4. 3.31 gears
  5. FTBR delrin bushings
  6. FTBR sway bar links
  7. FTBR toe links
  8. G-Force Outlaw axles
  9. 3” wheel studs
  10. Ford diff girdle/cover
  11. H&R sport springs
  12. Viking DA shocks
I will further develop the IRS with coil overs and KB control arms. If I can find another cradle, I’ll send it to KB for the geometry mod. I’m also switching the strut suspension out for a SLA so things will be interesting moving forward.

So, do you happen to have track data from that fancy 'race measuring machine' of yours that we will get to compare 3-Link vs. IRS?

That... would be fookin' sweet. Juss Sayin' :track:

Yeah, I can do that. I'll go make a test hit at the same spot, on the same tires, in the same hot/humid weather. Totally expect different results going from 4.10's to 3.31's. That may be a bigger factor than anything because the cheap, Atlas tires = LOL for traction.

Yesterday was finally install day!

IMG_3473.webp

Brake line adjusted.

IMG_3447.webp

The rest went well. LCA pockets needed some last minute adjustments to get the front mounts in. Beyond that, it was smooth sailing.

IMG_3451.webp

Instead of slotting the frame rail and installing the vertical bolts for the rear brackets, we welded them in place.

There is more to do but it’ll have to wait a few weeks. We kicked off a turnaround at the plant today and I’m working 7-10’s for the duration.

Still waiting for parts but MM call to confirm that Bilstein has my shocks in production. Leveled the tail pipes a few days back because I was tired of seeing them crooked every time I pulled in the driveway. It will take some effort but I’ll get the side profile where I want it.

After work yesterday, I sprayed what I could reach with a pressure washer to see how stubborn the grime would be.

Results were ok but she will need a little de-greaser and sweat equity.
