Ok, I just finished my 5.0 install into my 65. I used a Ford motorsport harness, and pretty sure I have everything wired right.

I fired it off, and to my amazement it runs!!! HOWEVER... It runs rough, and won't seem to idle, and back fires a bit. I pull codes and get code 14 PIP circut failure. Now did I wire something wrong, or is there a problem? The motor has sit for at least 4 years. i noticed that inside the distributor is rusty and has suffered some curosion. I'm thinking a new distributor would deffantly help and think it is my problem. What do you think?

I've heard you can replace the PIP sensor (inside distributor) but replacing the entire distributor is likely easier. I had the same code and replacing the distributor fixed it.

The sensor is only about $25 and is really the only thing that goes wrong with the distributer. If you put a motor in, then it shouldn't be much an issue putting a new PIP in the distriburer. The MSD Billet is a nice peice, and a nice peice of change as well.

The pip is the sensor is in the bottom of the distributor that triggers the TFI. You have to press the gear off the distributor shaft to get access to it to replace it. Most guys just end up replacing the distributor with a reman unit for about $75 exchange

ok I swap out he distributer with a re-man. I seems to run better, but still rough, and won't hardly idle. I put a code puller and won't seem to test KOEO or continuous codes. It will preform The KOER test, but the car dies half way threw it. I get a whole list of codes...
18-SPOUT or SAW circut open or failed
21-coolant temp out of spec(this I would think is ok, sense it is not up to operating temp)
41-HEGO sensor voltage low/system lean
13-RPM range low
12-RPM range high
91-HEGO system low/lean

What is the CODE 18-SPOUT SAW circut about? Not sure what my next step is? I checked over my wiring conections that I tapped into on the Brown and Green Main harness plugs, I don't think any of these would relate to the problem...

Is there any chance the dizzy is 180* out of phase?

Whoa, I just saw where you're from. I used to visit friends in Wasilla.

I'm a little confused on exactly what a "dizzy" is, but I will do a search. The throttle response is good, runs good once you get the rpms above idle. One thing that might be screwing me up is I'm running open headers, with the o2 sensors right there. It goes in tomarrow for an exhaust system. They wanted running to do it.

I replaced the TPS with an extra one I had, and it started to run decent. I ran to get some parts, came back and it's running like crap again. It still throws the PIP code and the Spout connector code. I beging to think the computer is bad. It is one I bought off e-bay.

what else? any ideas?

Yeah, every time I've ever seen that code a new module fixed it. They run fine with that code also.
