My 01 is throwing an evaporative system code. I had to replace the gas cap because of another code but this one keeps coming back. Recently I filled it up(just bought the car) and gas leaked out for days. The rubber seal from the filler neck to the tank is shot. I have a new one that I will install tomorrow, but will that cause the evap system to throw the code if it is leaking? I suspect it will since the closed loop system is seeing no pressure to the canister. Thanks. I am new to stangs, don't throw me under the bus, I am a Corvette guy, but bought this for my daughter, it is a fun car. Thanks guys!

In all likelihood the new seal will cure the code. I've had fill tubes develop rust pinholes and that was enough to toss a code. The system needs to be air tight.

Good luck.

alot of mustangs in this generation throw this code and mines not one to exclude the problem when i bought it with a bad fuel pump,it is usually the evap purge valve selonoid, and it kinda looks like a small round tube about the size of a roll of quarters on the passenger side of the firewall near the ac compressor. and if its not that than its just a faulty vaccum line somewhere.

a failing purge valve solenoid might intermittently throw 443 code on hot days. i have experienced this.

Replaced the tank seal and all is well, now on to the ABS light and checking the sensors.
