Anybody have some recommendations on buying a code reader? It seems to be a valuable tool among mustang-ites.

What are people using here?

For a reader, go with the LCD-screen version. They're 30 bucks at CSK (might vary with location). Some wallymarts have them as well.

Good luck.

My choice is a 25 cent jumper wire, but there are other ways to do it.

http://www.actron.com/product_detail.php?pid=16153 for what a typical hand scanner looks like. Normal retail price is about $30 or so at AutoZone or Wal-Mart.

Or for a nicer scanner see http://www.midwayautosupply.com/pc-7208-90-equus-digital-ford-code-reader-3145.aspx – It has a 3 digit LCD display so that you don’t have to count flashes or beeps.. Cost is $30.

this is the one i'm using. i think its the same as in jrichkers link.
works good, don't need anything fancy here. as stated above, all you really need is a paper clip, but a scanner is nice to have. i paid $50 for mine at canadian tire.

PS!!! - don't try and do a scan at night, and then leave it sitting on your roof, forget about it, and then drive over it. wish somebody would have warned me earlier! lol
