I'll need a new one for the 331 build and thinking about going black vs the chrome that I've always had 20 plus years and currently on the 94. I've seen some at American Muscle but mostly like a satin finish, dull looking and they are also more expensive. Rtunes racing sells some on amazon and at $109.00 the price is right plus it looks to have a power coated finish and if not, definitely a nice luster. The filter does look smaller in diameter or shaped different than the K&N I have on the other car so curious if that filter would suffice?
I do like how you can clean and rinse it so it says. With the K&N I have a cleaner and re oil

Even if the filter is junk the rest of it looks like it will do the job. Can always buy a K&N later down the road.

Pretty standard calculation for the square inches of filter media needed is as follows:

(CID X RPM) / 20,839

I have seen this formula over the years and I want to say at one point it was on K&N’s website. There was something about the 20,839 attributing to 1.5” H2O drop across the media which is less than a 0.4% loss in hp. Forgive me if any of this is incorrect as it’s from research on sizing the filter size for my T-Bird about 10 years ago.

So with a 331 and a shift point of 6200 rpm:

331 * 6200 / 20839 = 98.5 square inches of media.

Calculating the square inches of a given filter is about impossible unless you know the height of the pleats and then factor in a little length for the valleys and peaks and then multiply by the length and width. Conical filters are a little more complicated.

Usually you can call the manufacturer and they will tell you how many sq inches the filter has.

Couldnt say for sure, Ive never heard of that brand before. Its made in China apparently so if its a few bucks you are trying to save, it might be why. At least it looks decent
it actually look similiar if not the same as one's I've seen over the years and no not necessairly to save a few dollars but I am looking for one with a nice black finish as that one has vs the sve ones that look flat. I don't know if I've seen even in the more expensive CAI's that they actually come with a nicer finish and I'm not trying to send any of to be powder coated.

My ain question though was about the filter as I stated in the opening.

gotcha man I see you know your numbers and equations when it comes to things :D

I will do some digging and make some calls to see if that one will suffice.

Thats cool my man! I was just trying to give your post a bump anyway, and looks like it worked. Happy filter hunting!

I've never thought if it like that but I could not imagine my brain on any of that crap. Caffeine ramps me up enough as it is. I honestly think that a lot of the automotive manufacturing engineers are on drugs with some of the crap they do. I want to be mad at them but then they create something like the 5.0 Coyote and I quickly forgive them.

Tell you what every time they show those recent arrest and it has meth labeled as what the arrest was for lol, man they look tore down

Personally, I wouldn't trust the filter in that kit. I like AeroCoupe's suggestion to use the plumbing and replace the filter with a K&N. I don't know what they go for these days, but if you can nab one for $40-$60, you're coming in at what CAIs used to cost before this crazy inflation.

If you do go that route, please include some pictures of the parts. I would be curious to see how they compare to the quality of the brand name systems. There aren't many options around for '94-'95s anymore, and this used to be one of the most common upgrade parts.

Not to be picky but i know i'm not crazy lol. I was like I know i didn't see where Coupe suggested getting the parts to make a tube though I have heard of guys making their own mostly with doing the fox throttle body swaps to mention. I did like some of theirs and even the pic Coupe sent me of his with the polished tubing and the black hoses it looks like a really clean setup. As for me and like he said, the rest of the tubing would be fine and the filter might also so i might send it first and see how it does and if there are any drawbacks; i can always replace it. For I'm doing and using the oem configuration there's no need t make my own pipe and then have to worry about getting bungs and a nipple welded on, ect.

Lol I must be crazy or it's too early cause just as I hit send I re read and was like dang, kicking myself lol. I see where you meant using the tubing...... :D
