Looking to get CAI kit without tune for my 06 GT. Please point me in the right direction. Which manufacturer would you guys recommend? I've been looking and comparing them all. Also how is it really cold air when the filter is exposed to all the heat under the hood. I'm really considering just a replacement K&N at this point.

You know it's not too much about the heat as it is about the surface area of the filtration element. Going from a box/panel intake to a cone intake is a bit like switching from drinking through a straw to chugging from the bottle. A bit crude but roughly accurate. Given this particular analogy you see why it's better to invest in an intake/tuner combo for the S197. For the intake to be really effective it has to ingest larger quantities of air which leans out this car horribly.

Still if you're interested here's a shootout by 5.0 Magazine they did a while back with the main manufacturers of intakes for the car. Some in there don't require tuning.

Enjoy.

JLT or C&L Racer will give you the best gains, coupled with a good tune from Brenspeed or Bamachips. As stated above, intakes aren't worth much without a tune. Both tuners sell intake/tuner/tune combos.

Thanks DarkFireGT, I guess I'm a little hesitant about a reflash or tune. If I could get a few more horses with just some bolt ons (exhaust/intake). I would be satisfied. I don't want to do too much. Just enough to let the HEMIS in my area know that they don't run the streets.

Represent Walter. I guess I'll have to go one stage at a time. The Chargers are great to look at. I'm tired of them though. The things still run with really big wheels on them. It's truly a pain.

If anything, get a tune over an intake. There's more HP in a tune, and you'll also get ALOT better throttle response, and shifts if you have an auto. Throw in a K&N drop-in with the custom tune, and you'll be in decent shape. BTW, 5.7L hemi's are no match for a stock S197 GT at the track. I had a Magnum RT before my '07. It couldn't keep up with the '05 GT.

That's something I didn't think of Darkfire. That definitely sounds like something I can manage. The performance tune would cover just about everything. I'm also thinking about going with either Magnaflow axlebacks or the ones on the Shelby GTs. That's a damn good idea Darkfire. You and Walter definitely helped in tweaking my performance menu. Thanks for the guidance guys. I had an 90 LX and a 04 GT. Basic bolt ons did the trick for me on those.

I didn't read all the posts here but here is my $0.02, Walter is 1,000% correct the restriction in this current Mustang isn't really the filter as much as the intake tube itself so a CAI would be worth over a panel filter, another short coming is the tune I.E. fuel pulse and timing a tune is where you unlock a lot of power combined with the CAI. As for brands do some research the C&L and JLT units seems very popular and dig around for tuners....I hate to bash people but I had real bad experience with Demolet....his tune was horrid & set off a check engine light on top of that he blew me off and said it was bad sensor on a car with 1,200 miles. Oh well live and learn.
