Just a quick question... Can you put a cold air intake kit and not use a tuner? Just wondering if it would have any ill effects.

Yes you can but wont get the full potential. K&N, Roush are both able to be used without tune

I believe also the steeda intake without the high flow elbow will run without a tune as well as an S&B Intake, and MAC filter.

WMS with 80mm MAF is also a no tune needed CAI(what i have). The real power comes from the tuner.

i have an Airaid CAI and ran it without a tune for about 2 years. its the same as the Roush. it was a noticeable improvement over stock. i now have a diablosport airaid tune and its a huge improvement over stock.

When you say noticeable difference. could you tell me what you found to be better? I'm asking cause I made another post about fords CAI that I was thinking about putting on since I just purchased the car and didnt want to void the warranty just yet.

I was thinking of going the route you did and then a year or 2 down the road picking up a good tuner that is recomended at that time.

thanks

My assumption was that the ford install CAI would also do their factory tune for it as well. I assumed I could get a better tuner down the road for improved performance once the warranty ran out.

Or does it have to be a one shot deal? CAI /tuner combo at the same time or its to late? I understand the factory tune is not nearly as good as the others.

My option was to do nothing at all for the 3-yr/ 36k or do the factory CAI/tune and in a couple years then start with the big boy stuff. I’m hesitant with today’s economy to void the warranty figuring Murphy’s Law would come into play with my luck. I realize I’m not looking at any big boost but any little bit (even if its in my head) would be nice.

Was the 25hp increase worth trouble? could you see/ feel the difference in acceleration and or over all power?

My fuel mileage went up at least 3mpg...the s&b intake flows 54.5% more than stock intake...99.24 efficent...with a car over 3500 its hard to feel a difference of only 25hp....but driving at WOT i can just tell how much better the throttle response through the gears...

25 hp is a pretty noticeable gain. A tuner and intake combo is only worth 30 rwhp. So 25 hp from a cold air intake that does not require a re-tune is not sensible.

well considering s&b have one of the best CAI on the market now i dont consider it unreasonable...I did a ton of research on it before i bought the intake...here is one of the adds for it...check it out..
S & B Filters Performance Intake Kit for the 2005-09 FORD MUSTANG GT
I find this CAI worth the money and the time but just my opinion and i would recomend this system to everyone...

I just (as in minutes ago) purchased an S&B CAI from a board member on TMS. I got it for $135 and it's only 2 months old supposedly. This will be my first performance mod, and although I know it won't show me the best gains possible since it doesn't have a tuner, it'll still hopefully be a noticable difference.

My S&B CAI is scheduled to arrive tomorrow via UPS. I won't be able to install it til Saturday probably. I'll also be installing the FRPP GTA axle back when I install the CAI, so I'll be making my first two performance mods this weekend. Can't wait.

tough call, but the programmer is more fun. separate they do about the same for performance. but together is where you'll get the best results. i'd say it all depends on what CAI you want to get. if it'll run without a programmer get the intake first. if not get the programmer first. imho, the ford cai and flash tuner are not a wise use of discretionary income. sorry it took so long to respond, been kinda busy trying to get my 65 back together.
