what year?
what kind of intake are you trying to build? I built one that reaches into the inner fender, but you could more easily build one to reach to the front of the engine bay to start with.

If you take a look at the tech articles on the forum index then on the second or third page there is a detailed description of how to make one. If you decide not to follow that one, then just use your creativity to find ways to suck more air into your engine, thats what I did.

Go to lowes and get a 4ft piece 3" pvc,90 degree elbow, rubber reducer from three to the the trottle body,3"pvc bracket to hold it in place and a cone filter from auto zone. Oh!!! Don't forget pvc primer and glue.
Here is what I did!!

C.A.I. Build

I did this on my 89 Hatchback...

If you think you can do it, go to any local hardware store, and buy yourself (depending on year, i guess) a 3" to 3" coupler(rubber) then buy a 3" 45 degree sleave, then a 3" (1 foot long) pcv pipe, then if you have a K&N filter a 3" to 2" rubber coupler....
Put it together in that order from the (Intake out) and there you have it.... Cold Air Intake...

If you wanted to get more complex, you could go into the fender wall, for cooler air, but my buddy has that on his, and we really cant tell any difference.

It easier to clean and get at my way.

Good luck

Does a cool air intake make that much difference? I been pondering about getting one. I just gutted the cats and that alone made a world of difference, however I now like to actually tweak my car for performance. How much HP will this gain if any?

Thanks
