Cold air intake

Was this on a custom tune? I am a little confused about tuners I think. OK the GT/CS I have on order comes with the FR1 power pack (CAI, axle back, calibration). I understand that is a conservative tune from earlier threads. But what is a custom tune then. Does someone break in the tuner 'so to speak' and change the current tuner's settings OR is it like Steeda tuner that lets you change settings? [At least that is what I understand it lets you do] If it is someone resetting current tuner how do you find someone good/close and what cost would one expect to pay?

First off, I already asked Apowers that same question..As for a custom tune ?? A custom tune, is performed by a local tuner, who tunes your car on a dyno..On the other hand, a canned tune or preloaded tunes, are tunes, that are already preloaded on a hand held tuner, an e-mail or mail order tunes, are sent by a tuner or dealer, that you purchased your tuner/CAI combo from, directly..Hope this answers your question..

How much does a dyno tune cost? You probably remember my previous thread so wont go into that. Would it be better to have a dyno done or buy a steeda tuner like you had recommended? Is one better than the other?

Well, to get the most HP and Torque gains, along with other parameters, such as part and full throttle, and most important..Knowing what your air/fuel ratio is..It's always best, to have your vehicle tuned, on a dyno by a professional tuner..As for costs ?? That pretty much depends on the tuner..Some charge $150-$300 per hour and others charge, by the half hour..You just need, to do some research and shop around for the best rates, I suppose..On the other hand, if your on a tight budget and can't afford a dyno tune..Then the next best thing, would be.. Either the mail order tuner/cold air package..or preloaded/canned tune direction..I pretty much went, the mail order route from Steeda, for financial reasons..And so far, I have no complaints..Plus, if I ever get bored and want something better, I can always upgrade to a dyno tune later..Anyway, I would also check with your dealer, about your 07 GT/CS because from what I understand..Only the Shelby GT-H Hertz and Shelby GT, will have the FRPP power packs..The California special, on the other hand..Will not :shrug:

:( I read articles on this in several places and did not read it that way until now. :( Oh well I guess I can just start from scratch them and mod it out how I want. Kind of dissappointing though since I had thought those extra horses came with it. But I like the interior of the two-toned seats so guess it is not a bad deal.

Just wanted the icing PLUS the spinkles on my cake. :bang:

Here is one website on ford press release that says it gets a larger air intake. But maybe that does not mean CAI package? What do you think?

In my opinion, a larger air intake can mean just about anything..I also asked a couple of members from another forum, who also have GT/CS on order and both claim, the FRPP cold air kit is not included as a factory option, on the GT/CS I also asked them to look into the Ford media press release link, that you posted about the larger air intake feature, so I'm waiting to hear back from them..As soon as I hear something..I'll let you know, In the meantime ask your dealer and find out what he has to say about it, as well..:shrug:
 
I have another update for you..That member from the other forum, got his GT/CS today, And the bad news is, the GT/CS does not include the FRPP cold air kit..As for the larger air intake ?? that is nothing more, than the lower grill of the GT/CS having a larger opening, over the regular GT. which also sits 1.5 inches lower, than the regular GT. On the other hand, I was able to find out that you might be able to have your dealer order the FRPP kit. and then install it for you, as a dealer option..However, make sure your dealer agrees to honor your warranty in writting..Sorry that I wasn't able to be more helpful, but I tried my very best..Anyway, good luck to you..:nice:

Thanks Red for all your insight on this matter. :hail2: I sent an email this morning to the sales manager I am dealing with on my awaited order. Will see what he says. It retails @ $869 for CAI and new exhaust and they will probably want to double that for installation even though it should be pretty simple to do. BUT for warranty I might have to let them install. Will see.

BTW after you got on me in another thread I might take away your thanks. :D

First of all, I don't know what your talking about, but if I ever get on you about anything..you'll know it, beyond a shadow of a doubt..The way I see it is, you came into this forum seeking advice..And I did all this research with other members, from another forum who are also GT/CS owners, not just once but twice to make sure I was able to provide you with accurate info. concerning what the larger air intake meant..And I did just that..Now, if you don't happen to accept or believe that, then you'll just have to find that out, for yourself..The fact is, I didn't have to go through all this trouble, like I did in order to help you..But I did, so if that's getting on you, then you shouldn't have bothered asking for advice, in the first place..:D
 
Here's another quote from another GT/CS owner who explains in more detail about the larger air intake...My question

Ford used confusing terminology in that press release. They are actually referring to the front fascia having a larger air opening in it, they should not have used the word "intake" as everyone interpreted this to mean the CS was getting a CAI. I remember reading that before the CS came out and thinking the same thing myself! But in fact the CS has the same intake (on the motor) as the GT.

I have checked with the Parts & Service Director, Alan Little, on the disclaimer published in the Ford Racing catalog. All performance enhancements are for offroad or racing applications only. They are not recommended or approved for street use. Cosmetic modifications are available(ie:wheels,trim, and body extensions.)

i may have to do a little digging. i was sure that the GT/CS came with the power pack. i believe you and your sources, but how can so many people have the wrong idea?? ill let you know what i find about it, if anything.

Big I wish you were right but after all the digging I did and getting input from someone that already got the GT/CS his came with stock air intake like GT. I would love it if mine showed up with it but unfortunatly I doubt it will. But if you find different results please let me know.
