the maf has been tuned for the colder air it's going to be reading, differences in air turbulance, etc.

is that screen just to straighten out the air? so can you make a MAF "tuned for cold air" by going to home depot and bying some mesh?

The screen is just a 'Straightener'
It helps the meter to measure airflow accurately.

The CAI 'calibration' is done my modifying the output curve of the sensor.

The stock 5.0 MAF had a similar screen straightener.
People usually removed them thinking they were a useless restriction.

Ive read that ford was just paranoid and wanted to keep debree from clogging the mass air.But unless your running no air cleaner at all why cork the air flow?We work so hard to open everything up and improve flow, can someone explain why that screen maters? they did a dyno.....removed silencer, wich usually you loose 1 or 2 pounds of tourqe to gain 3 HP so nothing major there, they popped in a K&N replacement filter in the stock airbox, usually on a stock motor your lucky to get 3 or 4 HP.......dyno showed a gain of 5.64HP and 3.68lb-ft at the peaks??? seems like a good cheap trick to squeese more power, like advanced timing
