Well with 45K miles on the car... it looks like $48X2 plus install.

I had mine replaced under the TSB last week, its been bitter cold here and no problems with the new ones.

Its the cables

I live in San Antonio, so dont know about real coldness. But lots of people have been having trouble with the rear brake cable. Some portion of it is exposed to the elements in a way that allows it to ice over and lock the cable. Some have even gone to extreams and used a small propane torch on the them.

I guess the new cable has no exposed metal cable.

i had the dealer slap in the new cable, since its been cold as a mofo here and they froze up.

Same here. I ended up removing the rear wheels and disconnecting the cables on both side. Ran to the dealer and $58.00 for each cable. From what I understand, relacing the boot is not sufficient since the water intrusion can eventually break the cable down and make it less than trustworthy in the future. So, if it is such a safety risk I think Ford should suck it up and replace it as a recall item. I have 52K on my car and I guess I am picking up some new cables and putting them in myself.

Thanks again Bigcat. My 07 in Plano, Texas had a frozen parking brake this morning and the dealer is sending a wrecker out to get it since it will not move.

How hard was the install? Are the cables that you replaced just under the car or do you have to replace them all the way up to the parking brake handle? Mine's still under warranty but I'd rather not have the dealer messing around in my center console as that's the location of my nitrous system switches.
