dash parts are all there; vents and controls. condensor is cut off @ the firewall-probably needs replaced. everything else is gone except a compressor for core maybe. if this much is needing replaced would aftermarket be better or stock? i want the coldest a/c i can get. thanx

contact classic auto air in FL - they have all the right parts in stock at good prices - go with aftermarket with 134 freon and some of that performace booster they sell in small cans at the auto parts store - r12 is just too expensive and nobody really works with it any more even though it is supposed to be colder - if you are doing the job - do it once and do it right with all new parts and hoses, dryer, etc....

These days, with the technological advances, I'd say R-134A is colder. The only time R-134a is not as cold is when doing an R-12 to R-134A conversion: those systems just were not designed for R-134A.

My dad works with HVAC as part of his job so, I'm by no mean an expert but I have picked up a few things.

They now have home AC systems which use something called "Puron." I'm not sure if that is just another word for R-134A or not, but supposedly those systems are even more efficient.
