come talk me out of getting 4.30 gears(or in)

i run 3:90s, anything taller than that would be absolutely unnessecary. If you ever plan to drive faster than 50mph again don't get 4:30s.

Ever had 4.30's before? With a retarded/ignorant/inexperienced response like that i'll take a wild guess and say you have ZERO experience with them

I do 70 on the highway with zero problems. My hwy rpm's are 2500-2600. Thats what REAL world EXPERIENCE will do buddy

I'm gonna be swapping to a 26x10.5x16" ET street soon so my rev's will drop ever so slightly

No kidding. These people don't get it... they just compare it to 2.73s. Yes, with that screw you can be in 5th gear at 1900 on the highway doing 80. The only other vehicle that will come remotely close to that is a pickup truck. I think my F150 is around 2150 at 75 miles per hour. And it has a 3.73 rear end.

Drive ANY OTHER 5 speed and you will see that 75 mph is around 2300 rpms. It's ok to drive at that rpm.

Greenstang1313, why don't you go explain to all those guys running 8s and 9s with a minimum of 4.10s that they shouldn't be going over 50. I'm sure they will see the light immediately and install a set of 3.90s. (Although none of them would run 3.90s anyway, its not a Ford piece.)

Furthermore, what is the difference between 3.90 and 4.10? 140 rpms? I bet you've looked at your tach and been off by more then that at a glance.

Excuse my rant, but this topic has been covered infinity plus 1 times and the same ignorant statements are said every time.

I agree with greenstang1313 and final on that one. 4.30's are definitely overkill. Good call!

P.S. My reasoning is that you are running 2870RPM at 75mph. This is my crusing speed especially in 65mph zones where everyone is doing 85mph..

i'm pretty sure i read somewhere that corvettes could hit like 60 in 1st gear ...

Grn92lx - Obviously your tire size has been altered a decent amount. You are running very similar rpm as my 3.73:1 car. I have driven 4:30's...

No way would I put them on a highway car.

You will lose gas mileage on the highway.

So you did a test to see if you gained 5mph from the gear swap yet?

If the original poster doesn't really care what gear he wants and just like the feel of it, get whatever you want, because you don't care

Its .1" shorter than stock. Stock is 25.6", these are 25.5, same as you

I didn't. My best mpg with the new combo has been with the .30's. On avg, its basically the same mpg as the .73's.

Not yet. Way too hot to run. Plus I need a real tire. Going to be ordering up a set of 26x10.5x16" ET streets and putting them on a spare set of ponys i'm going to be buying from a friend. Then hopefully have a buddy trailor me to the track and spend a day making passes

I know it's not a Mustang but my F150 has 4.30 gears in it with 31" tires and it is not bad at all on the highway and pulls our boat effortlessly on the highway.

Grn92lx - All of it was in italics...

2,323 rpm with 3.73's.

2,679 rpm...with 4.30's.

70mph with a t5 (94/95) with 245/45/16's.

Close to a 400rpm difference.

2,700 rpm is not comfy on the interstate, when cars are passing you at 70mph. That is a sucky feeling...lol.

You might want to quit exxagerating and put those little details, about your tire size, and most importantly...you having a different tranny

You lost gas mileage...what you mean by average gas mileage, is that you were in the ball park...but you lost gas mileage.

You also have said that you very rarely get up to highway speeds...(70mph)...so more reason for you to stick with them...plus your's is a more track oriented car that is putting out street performance. Time to look at selection of parts as the culprit...
