I finally had the chance to take my '07 Mustang GT out for a longer trip (3+ hours each way). Driver (me) and passenger (wife) mutually agreed that about 2 hours is the upper limit for seating comfort in this car. After that, no adjustment or rest stops and stretching made it comfortable. We've taken longer road trips in several other vehicles with no such problems. My back is still screwed up two weeks after this short trip. Since I was looking for a good excuse to upgrade the stock leather GT seats anyway...

1. Does anyone have any recommendations for good, compatible aftermarket seats that will offer cruising comfort and still great support for performance driving?

2. The stock seats have side airbags. Assuming I disconnect the battery and drain down, then unplug the seat airbags, will this set any error codes or anything I need to worry about?

I have the side air bags as well and have twice removed my passenger seat for drag racing weight reduction. The longest I had it out was 3 days and I never had any codes or errors rear their ugly head.

I haven't heard of any good aftermarket seats for these Mustangs but I have heard the seats in the GT500 are more comfortable and have better side bolstering.

I just spent 6.5 hours straight driving over the weekend and I don't have any issues with the stock seats comfort-wise. In fact I think they're more comfortable than my office chair or sofa. I'm 23 though so maybe it's an age thing (assuming you're older)?

Yes, age is a factor. I've spent the first 40 years of my life without ever having back pain. Now, for the last year or so (I'm 41), I've begun to understand what most people complain about all the time. I consider myself lucky for having a "good" back for so long, but the Mustang seats are a real pain for me now.

If you think the present generation GT seats are uncomfortable, you shoulda tried the previous generation! I had a 2002 GT Vert that was so bad I was shopping eBay for weeks trying to find '03-'04 Cobra seats to install. Finally went with an '05 GT and that solved the problem; perhaps your back is in worse shape than mine but I got a few more decades on me than you have...

You might try some add-on cushions made for vehicle seats before going with expensive GT500 units etc. Check out this site; not cheap but they have well-made and well-engineered products for bad backs: http://relaxtheback.com/travel-subcategory-6389780
Good luck and please report back when you find a solution.

I must be lucky or something. I've taken several very long trips in the GT and I find the seats to be very comfortable, much better than my company car, a Chrysler 300 w/ leather.

i have taken many 8 hour trips in my stang and have never had any uncomfortable moments. even when my wife was pregnant, she could take the 8 hour trips without issues.

it does take a bit of adjusting to find the sweet spot, but ut is worth the time to do it. same way for track days. i found if i adjust my seat a bit, i can drive better at the track. not quite as comfy as how it is adjusted for the street, but adjustment is key.

Hmm, I did spend a lot of time tweaking my seat for performance driving. Perhaps I need to consider a different set of adjustments for comfort. I do use a CG-Lock all the time to keep my butt where it's supposed to be in those slippery leather seats (I'm not a fan of leather seats) and that helps a lot. I really would have assumed it was just me and my seat setup if not for my wife complaining about the same time from the passenger seat. Anyway, I really don't plan to use the car for any more family trips - that's NOT why I bought it!

I haven't heard of any good aftermarket seats for these Mustangs either - which is funny because the Fox Body cars had/have almost as many seat choices as they have Hood choices!

I dont get it
