alright, im waiting on my rebuild kit for my rear end. its got all the bearings, shims, seals, crush sleeve, and clutches. im just wondering how long this is going to take and if its going to be easier to remove the entire rear end or just leave it in the car. im hoping the ring and pinion are still good but i might try to get a set lined up just in case they arent. does anyone think that is a one day job with the car on jack stands or am i looking at a multiple day job. keep in mind i dont have any air tools but i also know what im doing and can get the right tools to set up a rear end in 15 minutes if i have to do that. let me know what you guys think.

ps. the reason im rebuilding it is because i know one axle bearing is bad and that both axle seals are bad and the front pinion bearing is bad. and the trac-lok is shot.

If you are doing a complete drum to drum rebuild then it is probably easier to take the rear out of the car. It could be a one day job if you know what you are doing and have experience doing it but I would save it for a weekend project for yourself.

This is an awesome website that everybody that deals with a mustang rearend should look at.

It took me 2 days to do the complete overhaul. I had to truck the diff to a shop to use the hydraulic press to remove and install the carrier and pinion bearings. If you dont have air tools, I highly recommend buying the spacer/shims from 50resto to take the place of the crush sleeve. Trying to use a 4 foot breaker bar to crush the sleeve sucks A$$. I used this part and it was so easy it was stupid. I will never use the crush sleeve again.

go here: http://www.latemodelrestoration.com/

then search for: SK-CSF9STD

Heat your bearings up to about 350/400 degrees in a griddle or oven and put on some welding gloves they should slide right off or on.

I just put a eaton posi and new axles in my car and it went way smoother than i thought it would, but i was using a friends lift also... if summit didnt send me the wrong axles we could've got it done in one night, and if you know your stuff it could probally happen in a day. hardest part for me was getting the old posi out of the rear end. but i also re-used my old gears and didnt have to re-shim the carrier cause the backlash didnt change, so i think i got lucky
