Completly stock motor vs. Balanced and blueprinted stock motor? How much HP gain?

I just got two new 5.0 roller blocks. One has a crank and stock cam, the other is bare. Anyhow I am curious how much HP one can expect from balancing and blueprinting alone. Naturally this is not what I plan on doing I was just curious what kind of diff it makes. Anyone know?

I don't know that there would a measurable difference stock for stock. The possibilities with b&b motor are alot more. It will also last longer and be smoother.

I wonder this myself. I would suppose that they would be more power going into the drivetrain because less energy would be lost shaking the engine around. I think the revving capabilities and longevity of the engine would make it worth it.

I would also think that the decreased harmonics in the motor would also effect how much more power the block could potentially take.... (more of course)

To actually get power from a fully balanced shortblock you'll run looser tolerances in the main and rod bearings. Though of cousre if you go to loose, you trade improved oil flow for loss in pressure. I'm not saying pressure is better then flow, you have to have both in the proper proportions. If you had a motor with a dry sump system that could run more volume and more pressure, yeah, I'd go a looser on the clearances for more power. For a reliable street/strip appilcation, though, you're not gonna want to go real loose on the motor..

I doubt you would see any gain really. But you would have peace of mind when spinning it up to 7000 rpm with a soundly built short block. It would also be able to handle more power than a stock short block.

The main reason I raise the question is do to the write up in some of the mags latley about DSS's cnc machined blocks level 10 and 20. their ads claim a dyno proven 30+ hp gain using their block. Just trying to figure out why they can make that claim.

a better balanced motor with less rotating mass makes more power...............and that is common sense...............

Yes, a perfect internal balance makes much more power.

All that does make sense...but how much power? i just called DSS and they said the reason their block makes more power is because of the better ring seal due to torque plate honing. The rest is basically coming from the strength of the block. Hard to belive that plate honing is woth 30 hp.
