I had my local mechanic do a compression test and all numbers were from 150-153. Is this considered to be a good compression? Do you know what the stock compression is for my car? I have svt mustang cobra and couldnt find any stock #'s. i had the compression test done to see why i have been burning 1/2quart every 1000-1200miles. No leaks. what could be the problem? Should i be worried about the oil consumption. I use mobil 1 10w30 synthetic. Would switching back to regular oil help? Any help is appreciated.

It may be valve seals as they would not show up on a comp. test as the valves are closed at this point/kind of test.

ummm. ok.

a compression test, like dyno results, is good for relative comparisons. there are enough variances in method that it is just a rough guide. the numbers being so close is what you are lookin for.

if your mechanic had done a wet compression test, that would have helped show the source of any leakage. with numbers like yours, i would not worry.

as BlkSN suggested, a leakdown test can be more precise, but a comp. test does show pressures and the wet portion helps eliminate sources of leakage.
