Hello, wanting to know if, and which computer from a 5 speed lx will work in my aod gt? have a friend parting out his lx and he has a maf/ harness/and computer for his 5 speed he is willing to sell me. Also, what is the difference(if there is) between the 5speed and the aod computers, he thinks it is a A9L but he is not sure.

thanks

Maybe you should mention if your car is aod or t5?

If you have a manual either the A9L or A9P will work.

Some folks have reported using an A9L on an auto car, but this seems a little sketchy.

I had a bout of insomnia last night and finally posted the differences between the A9L, A9P, and X3Z on my site...

There are 3 very large tables on this page, so it takes a while to load. Be patient.
If you are not familiar with some of the EEC settings it may not completely make sense, but you should be able to tell where timing and fuel are different...

Since you have an automatic, you will need an auto's ECM. If you had a 5 speed you could use either one.

The fox-body AOD uses no electronic control whatsoever; therefore, a 5-speed computer can be used with no adverse effects.

I'm not saying it is because of transmission control, i'm saying that the auto ecm is tuned differently than the 5 speed ECM. There are several differences between the two, if there wasn't any differences, Ford Engineers wouldn't have wasted time coming up with different maps. If you look at vristang's website you can see some of the differences for yourself.

I didn't say they weren't different; I said that there wouldn't be any adverse effects. Sure, the timing won't be as agressive and a few other things are different, but the car will still run and he probably won't tell a difference. I have seen more than one AOD car run with an A9L computer installed.

So, then why didn't they just make an AOD computer and put it in all the cars instead of wasting engineering time? Since, according to your other post, an AOD computer can go in any 5-speed car.

I'm very aware of the differences. I have seen many of them in the BIN files on my TwEECer.

Can you say what you ran these computers in?
