I just installed a set of 96-98 taillights on my 95 and there is a bunch of condensation in one of them. I dryed it out but it came back. Does anyone know how to get rid of this?
I got ones from APC as well and my driverside one is turning yellow Its nasty and throws the whole look of my car to hell. I was thinking about trying to get ahold of APC because I dont remember who I bought them from. I had the clear/chrome ones through crutchfield before but I decided they were too ricey and got the carbon fiber ones (yes still ricey, but you cant really notice the fakey carbon-fiber unless you're up close) from some other company. Crutchfield was awesome about returning the first pair so if you got yours from them I'd just return em. I'll be keeping an eye on this as I'd like to know if theres another option as well. I'll let you know if I can get ahold of APC.
hm i noticed the corners on my sisters cavalier were a bit foggy this morning, if you could find some way to dry it out, maybe a hairblow dryer or whatever, then get a good seal on it you should be fine, but there inlays the problem, what do you seal it with?
go to the hardware store and buy a tube of "silicoen adhesive" put it aorudn the edge, and smooth it out so it covers the entire amtign area, let it dry, adn you shodul be good.
I was told thats a bad idea, as supposedlt silicone attracts water and thus would increase the condensation. I wrote APC this morning hopefully they reply back. their website is www.4apc.net (I think pulling that one out of my hind end)
Well I called APC because they never responded to my email. Any way they said they only warrant their products for 90 days, thats a bunch of poop IMO as its a 200+ dollar piece of plastic, you'd think theyd offer a better warranty as they are supposedly one of the better manufacturers. Oh well guess I'll call the BBB and file a report. Doubt it will do anything, back the stock lights go on
- Clean the inside of the lens as much as possible, possibly even using a plastic polish.
- Pick up a tube of clear, waterproof sealant at the hardware store. (Yes, they make a silicone adhesive that is waterproof for aquariums and the like and it does not 'attract' moisture)
- Seal up the lens and allow the sealant to cure fully before reinstalling.
An option to the silicone adhesive might be the liquid gasket maker that they sell at auto parts stores. I have never tried it for this type of repair, but it might work as well.
Should be good to go after that. Then again, I could be wrong - stranger things have happened.
Well I ended up just buying new lights, not too happy I had to go with the same comapany, but I used a different distributer and they warrant the product for 2yrs, they recomended silicone for outdoor use, and said to steer clear of the fishtank stuff because it turns yellow over time or something. Any way we will see how that works, oh and the silicone does not void the warranty.
