Confused on exhaust back pressure.

You gain both imo. Because you are removing the most restrictive part of your stock exhaust(cats). It's a win win situation.

read up on exhaust scavenging if you want. there is way too much info to post in here.

Lets stick to STOCK Stang and not go into the basic bolt on thing. I thought I had a basic bolt on Stang cause my block is original and some folks on another board got all upset and told me my combo was not a bolt on, LOL.

The loss of low end would not be too bad with just a mid pipe on a stock Stang. If you did the entire system, headers, mid pipe, & catbact it would be very noticable.

If you are gonna go for the whole na combo of h,c,i and all small supporting stuff that is needed to bring out the most from a h,c,i upgrade like tb, maf, inj's, etc then the exhaust is needed also and you will already have it in place.

IMHO on a stock Stang exhaust is not the best gain for the buck spent but then again there is the sound thing that only the exhaust mod gives if that is important to you.

If you don't have some gears I would do them before anything else cause that is the mod that gives you the most gain for the money.

i think the torque will come in about 500 rpms or so later than stock but. the top end and sound well make up for it.

when we put an off road pipe on my friends car we really didnt notice it that much except the kick butt sound.

but later we put the stock one back on for smog and holy crap, i thought the car died. i was thinking ok, it will wake up eventually in the rpm band, but it seemed it never did

by the way the rest of the exhaust was stock and it was a summit pipe.

totally, mine too, I went from 186 rwhp to 212 rwhp with a o/r h-pipe and dropped from 15.2 to 14.6, JUST the MAC h-pipe..

You dont lose TQ, its just shifted up the rpm. Its still the same amount just coming into action 500rpms later

wow, i didnt know that an exhaust would free up that much horsepower, i'm debating on whether getting gears or an exhaust for christmas. Decisions, decisions...

are you making a christmas list or are you one of those people like me who make sure they buy themselves something big every year.

since you got a 5spd, my personal opinion is go for exhaust. if it was an aode id say gears. with the stick, you can still wind it up and dump the clutch for now.
