Backup lights Q

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I just mounted a set of backup lights on my '65. (It didn't have them before).
However, I can't find any electric connection for them.

Where do I find the electrical feed for them?? The harness in the trunk has only 3 leads; license, turn and main.

Under car?

The early 65's did not have back up lights, so the factory never installed the wiring for them. You may have to run a wire from a fused such as the radio feed, to the back up light switch on the transmission. Then from the back up light switch on the transmission to the back up lights.

The later 65's had a black/red wire that runs from the same feed as the radio circuit to the back up/neutral safety switch, then back to the lights.

Hope that this helps...

these are the steps that I used to get my back up lights working in my 65. If you have a C4 trans you will have a couple of wires that run from the trans to the firewall will have a black connector and a red connector. This should be neutral safety and back up lights so the wiring from the trans to the under dash wiring is there. Now behind the instrument bezel towards the drives side kickpanel you should find a couple of empty plugs. turn the key to the on position, and with a test light find the plug that has no power with the car in park, and power when you move the shifter into reverse. once you found the plug, run a wire from the plug back to the trunk to hook up the lights. The only wiring my car didn't have was from under the dash to the trunk. again this was with a C4 trans and might be different if you have a 3 or 4 speed. I hope this helps
