Considering a mustang, have questions

I dont know why everyone says the mileage in these cars is so bad. I got 23-25 mixed in my old Stock 2004 GT, low 20s mixed in my PI swapped, full bolted 98 GT, and get low 20s in my auto 01 GT.

That is on par with most V6 sedans on the market right now.

Btw I got my 1998 Mustang GT with a full PI Swap, full boltons, and 03 Cobra wheels for $6K with 70,000 miles last year. This is the only pic I have left but it has the FR500s on it. Other than the wheels and new seats is was as I bough it.

get the mustang you will like it more than the 4runner. Especially if you can drop the top!! I drove a 92 hatch then got a 96 convertible halfway thru college. The convertible Mustang was great in college. Nice spring and summer nights the phone would be off the hook with girls wanting to go out for a ride!!!
So get the Mustang it's be more fun.

I owned a 96 gt before my cobra. First off if you even think power matters, don't go with a mustang. I say this because 96-98 stangs are NOT considered "performance cars" from an insurance perspective meaning they don't cost much more than a v6 because they come with like 220 hp from the factory - not that impressive. However, you CAN do things like put a gear in it, rims, etc. that still make it a fun purchase, but again you will never be able to touch Chevy's, Cobra's, BMW's, etc.

Be afraid of deals that look "too good to be true" I got an awesome deal on my 96 saleen, but it was because the guy had a lean on the car because he bought a new truck - so I knew talking him down to a GOOD price was worth it.

The quote of "$300/month" is insane and WAY off! First off you wouldn't FULLY insure your car because it's worth crap to begin with - so you get the cheapest form of insurance possible AND the car you are insuring is NOT a sports car by industry standards, so you should be looking at like $50-60 with GEICO seeing as I am 23 with a 98 Cobra("High performance") and it's around $70/month for basic insurance in my state...

Watch out for someone who "just did" a lot of performance mods to their car and they are selling it - odds are something got screwed up or is about to be....People GENERALLY don't put a lot of money into their cars if they PLAN on SELLING it...

I have got as much as 21 around town and 26 on the highway. and no less than 18 and driving it pretty hard.

A wise man once told me when I inquired about his $80,000 Audi - we refer to him as "The Godfather" - that if you are asking what kind of gas mileage you can get - you can't afford the car! Very true to this day, he still sends me good money on the birthday and such - However, I took his advice to heart, went out and bought a Saleen and then a 98 Cobra and did as many mods that $13,000 could afford me and eat up his Audi, all his Vett'es he's ever owned, but I still can touch his old Road Runner or Charger - YET.

Point being, I took his advice to heart and went out and built the nastiest car around and get TERRIBLE gas mileage - but again if you ask me what mileage I get - I couldn't tell you, but I could tell you that you "couldn't afford it!"

Take the cobra.

I have a stock 97 auto and do all in-town driving. All the stop and go driving must kill my mileage because I average 13 mpg.

i get about 16-18mpg all depends on how you drive, i didnt know the were so many high school kids on here, i a junior in high school

Aren't the mystic cobras somewhat rare? I would take the cobra in a heartbeat. Maybe I'm talking out of my a$$, but I would think the mystic would be a good car to hold on to regarding resale value later on down the road depending on how long you hold on to it and milage.

As far as reliability is concerned, it's a pretty solid car that should'nt give many problems if it was taken care of in terms of maintenence and driving habits. I'm a firm believer that if you take care of the car, the car will take care of you! Assuming of course you don't start off with crap. The big question here is- How does your brother treat the car and what condition is it in?

If you keep the gas pedal off the floorboard you will get good mileage. But if it was my only car I, myself would find it impossible to stay off the gas. It was'nt made for it. That's why I'm glad I have my Mach, and my Focus is my gas mizer. Gas is'nt gonna get any cheaper inthe next few months. Say hello to $4 a gallon.

That's a really nice looking Cobra for 13 years old. If it's mechanically sound I'd make the trade in a heartbeat.

Thats a real clean car for the miles. It sucks someone added a sunroof to it, that will really hurt the value of it later down the road.
