there is a 92 lx for sale at a used car lot down near me. its got under 100k miles, and some nice upgrade stuff on it. electric fan, suspension was done (not sure with what, but its stiff, lowered and camber plate equipped), exhaust was done, clutch was upgraded (stiff petal and quick grab), rear end was done (ratio felt like 373 but it could have been 355. im not 100% on this, but it was a real quick shift and the speedo was off).
however it obviously has some issues, since its still sitting in a lot. the belt tensioner needs to be replaced because i could see it pop back and forth when i hit the throttle. the ac doesnt work (no compressor action when i hit the switch - out of freon? ive got no experience with a/c) those arent huge issues. my main concern is the fact that for the entire length of the test drive, the car did not warm up to op temp. the furthest it got was little past the first bar after cold. it was also cool when we opened the hood afterwards. the electric fan was not on. im thinking the previous owner removed the thermostat. wanted to see if i could get a consensus on that, as well as if there could be any issues resulting from the car running cold. the other thing was a loping idle. it seemed to have a steady kick to it when idling. no driveability issues; the car was very peppy infact, and the compartment was clean. the interior is gorgeous, however, there is some cancer forming lower right corner of the rear hatch window. all told ive got 7-8k to put into whatever car i get, so im factoring in evertything. there is also a little crumple denting on the rear fender flair that i would get repaired the same time as the rust and have the entire car repainted (it needs it) so if anyone can throw out a possible estimate for that as well that would be cool. the cancer is a strip about 4 inches from the lower corner in towards the middle. and its the bubbly malignent kind.
im considering picking up the car if i can hardnose the dealer. its listed at 4795, but has been on the lot for a number of months (i presume because of the few obvious but seemingly minor problems). my main worry is if there is something i should be concerned about with a car that could have potentially been running cold for some time. also see if people thought the idle problem may be related to maybe a lose belt from the broken tensioner, or if it may just be one of the plethora of things on a fox thatll cause funky idle. i was gonna take it for no more than 4k out the door, if that seems reasonable. foxes are hard to find down here in san diego, especially clean ones, so they do go for a lot. but im a decent bargainer, and if they are willing to move it, will hopefully get it for less.
