Considering new Mustang...Need advice

Just out of curiosity cause I've never special ordered one, do you have to pay the MSRP or can you play with those numbers as well at the dealership?

Nice to see it online. I'm surprised you chose a V6. And as for the Subaru, that is not even a comparison. Subaru? Really? Where do you find these "friends"? Cars that I always steer clear of =Jaguar, Subaru, Saab. You made the right choice.

Almost identical to my son's vert--he didn't get the stripes (bought the car off a lot, and it wasn't ordered with them). BEAUTIFUL CAR. You're going to LOVE it. Tell your friends that never in the history of the automobile has someone almost broken their neck swiveling to see a WRX go by. In a GB Mustang, it will happen at almost every stoplight. You made the right call. Can a WRX beat it? Probably. Who freaking cares? Your car looks good standing still.

You should be able to do better than MSRP. The problem is, you're going to be trying to negotiate with a mouth full of drool.

You're going to have to decide if MSRP is a good deal for you, and then not worry about it; or be ready to walk away from the car when it's on the lot if they try to stick it to you on your trade. Any chance you can sell it outright? You'll tend to make more that way.

I have always considered a special order. Just to get the color and options i want. Let us know how things work out for you in the up coming weeks.

Year or two from now, I'm hoping to upgrade from this 05 to a new V6 or maybe even try a 5.0 out.

First: My son LOVES his car. He upgraded from an 06 V6 coupe, which he really liked, and was a GREAT car, but the new one is in a totally different class. Better handling, better acceleration, smoother, quieter, and his has quite a few more options than his old car (including the soft top). No issues other than cheek pain from perpetual grinning.

You didn't mention X plan before. No, you can't negotiate off X Plan, but you typically can't negotiate a better straight deal either, even if you're a really good negotiator in a good position. You ARE still eligible for all the rebates and other incentives on top of X Plan though, so you should be buying this thing at a killer deal.

With respect to your trade-in: Figure out what your tax differential will be between trade versus outright purchase. Let's say it's $1000 more in taxes if you do an outright purchase instead of a trade. Then figure out how much your reasonably able to expect to make off an outright sale of your truck. Give yourself a little extra for the convenience of not having to sell it yourself, and possibly being stuck with either a) no vehicle, or b) two vehicles, for a short period of time if you can't perfectly time the sale of your truck with the delivery of your new car. If they don't offer you at least that net amount in trade, then you're better off selling. That way you know going into it what your real trade value is.
