Control arm removal

I am installing my new control arms, and i have run into one problem. The bold that hold the lower control arm to the axal will not come out. It will spin in place and the nut is off but just wont pull out. Has anyone ran into this problem before and if so how did u get it out. also is there anything i need to know when installing the new ones. they are nonjustable control arms also intalling new springs thanks for the help.

I had the exact same problem... After hours of fighting with it, and having no luck, i finally just said screw it and broke out the biggest sledge hammer I could find. Took one hell of a lot of beating but it eventually came out. Be prepared to buy new bolts, washers and nuts for the lower mounting points on RCA's. Even if you manage to get them out without damaging the threads, they will probably show signs of corrosion and should be replaced.

if that wont work get out the ol' sawzall and cut the bolt off, 28/teeth per inch blades work best for the hardened bolt

jack up the rear untill the load is even and its not binding up, then use the impact on it and it will back out a lil and just keep working pryin untill it comes out.

I had same problem tried every thing even a big hammer still no luck, then i got an air hammer and in about a minute or so with the air hammer in came out gotta love air tools.

What worked for me was to get a appropriate punch, or a similar tool, and have someone turn it while the other hits the punch against the opposite side of the bolt. Its better to use a impact wrench while doing it, but you can use a ratchet too... it will just take a bit longer. My bolts were corroded to all hell, and were completley seized in the crush sleeve bushing. Using the above mentioned method, it only took a few minutes per bolt to remove.

And yes, chances are your going to have to buy some new bolts, washers etc. I believe they were 12mm, and I cant recall the length. I had a tough time finding a hardware store that carried them, as the normal places (home depot, lowes, tractor supply etc.) does not have a good selection of grade 8+ metric fasteners.

I didnt have a problem with mine, or any of my friends, guess we were lucky. The head of the bolts are 18mm i think, dont know what the threads would be though. SInce your having trouble now, it would be a good idea to put some anti-sieze on them suckers so that you never have this problem again.

Make sure you put a jack under the arm to take the spring load off of the arm. The bolts should come out nicely. Install the new arms with a good grease applied to the urathanes or you will get the skweaks not cool
