I just had the a/c converted about a month ago. Today I started the car and heard a loud pop and a release of pressure under the hood (behind the dash). I drove home and didn't have a/c. When I popped the hood there was antifreeze all over the passenger side of the engine and I found that this a/c connection disconnected...it is going into the firewall:

I tried to point out the hose and the place where it goes with my fingers. My questions:

What happened?

More importantly, is it ok to drive the car for a week until I can free up one of the other vehicles?

I'm going to take it back to the mechanic that converted it because I was under the impression that all connections are resealed with a better fittings b/c the R134 is more pressure but I won't have time or a vehicle until next week.

the line just came off. Maybe they didn't have it all the way on. Will be fine to drive that wasn't antifreeze it was the green die they put in for leaks. Just don't try and turn on the a/c with no oil in it to be on the safe side. And 134a shouldn't have anymore pressure than the r12 i converted mine a few years back in my driveway with no probablems.

Sweet. Thanks for the information. I'll be calling them tomorrow and getting it fixed. I didn't know about that green dye but it makes sense.

More than likely, whoever did the conversion overpressurized the system.

Also, from the picture, those don't look like the correct o-rings. They look black. The correct o-rings are green in color. Maybe it's a bad pic. The conversion doesn't change the fittings, all it does is replace the old black r-12 o-rings with the correct green RES o-rings since the r-134a is smaller and will seep out easier. The spring from inside the fitting has popped out. You will need a new spring, but there is a chance the fitting is damaged and will require the line to be replaced.

Did they replace the orifice tube and accumulator too in the conversion? or did they just pull a vacuum and stick 134a in?? Hope you didn't pay much
