I recently bought an 89 GT convertible. Overall, it's in decent shape, needs a lot of "freshening up", but anyway to my question.

When I open the door in the dark, I have NO interior lights. Now I don't suppose there should be a dome light, but should there be some under dash or somewhere else?

Also while I'm thinking of it, I have a small 2 inch long wire with a three pin female connector on it that hangs down from top center of windsheild just above the rear view mirror. Anyone know what this is? My 2001 dodge Ram truck has such a wire which connects to the rear view for auto dimming, but the stang mirror has no such connection. Was such a thing an option in 89??

The interior lights are in the rear view mirror....sounds like you don't have the original mirror.

Man what a fast reply!

I love this forum!!!!!!!!

I had no idea I would get an answer to both questions in one. Now all I got to do is find a source for the mirror.

I'm going to check 50 resto, but don't recall seeing one on their. Any thoughts on sources?

I have a vert also and I have the lights under the rearview mirror but they are unbluged because if I plug them in they will not shut off, like the door is open. I have changed out the pins in the doors and still nothing. I got an alarm installed on my car and it gives off chirps saying that a door pin switch is not working. I have traced and traced this, even bought a wiring diagram to the car and it is about as confusing as they come. So I have no idea what to do.
Are the door pins them selves the postive ones, in other words when the door is open they are hot and then when it shuts they ground out or ? Do this make any sense?

No lights either!!!!!

Hey man,

I have a 91 and got no lights either. I do have the trear view mirror lights though-but what good does that do--There shouldve been some floor interior lights put on these cars from ford.
i went from a Linc-Conti which was like Yankee stadium @ nigh when you put the floor interior lights on, to this-Living in the dark ages-literallY!!!! ahhahahaa
i was thinking about rigging some fluorescent floor lights on the floor sometime soon hooked up with a manual switch. that should do it!!!

88stang:

Another thing to look at is your dimmer switch ( http://secure.50resto.com/product1.cfm?SID=1&Product_ID=319&Category_ID=763 )that dims the dash lights - if you roll it all the way to the right, it clicks and turns the interior lights on. Make sure it's not rolled all the way to the right - I had this same trouble.

My 92 vert doesn't have this? When I bought the car, everything was in working order. I'll check for a socket too, but was that on option or does every vert have one?

you can still get new ones from Ford

though they are not the 'correct' style, they still work, and the bulbs and switches are better than the old one. I think they are about $60.

I have a contact for a great parts guy who will ship anywhere. I am not sure if I am allowed to put his name up here but if you are interested you can send me an email or pm.

dont know if it was mentioned (only cruised the responses), but you also have a light in the pass foot well and driver footwell. the pass one is under the dash, around the middle of the pass side foot well (under glovebox), IIRC. the driver one is under the fuse box. you will see a socket with no bulb (seems a lot of people are missing these or ford didnt use the sockets). pop a bulb in for more light.

BTW, for the alarm guy, the electronics dont really like having juice rammed down them (for domelight illumination, etc) from an alarm. can create problems, although many have done it with no probs. i chose to hook up some custom lights and wired them in so that i feed them juice for the domelight stuff (just work for the alarm). just an idea. i like the custom way better. i never liked having the stock lights comin on.

good luck.

you can wire up interior lights just under the speaker grill if you know what you doing. Get some of those exterior fender lights you see ricers putting on hondas, those things will blind you. When the door opens planes will fly into you, and mothers will shield young childrens eyes.

jadefalcon that'st an awesome idea.

but maybe move the light to the rear of the door about 8" from the edge and 4 in from the bottom of the door like the '69 deluxe interior mustangs had them I always thought that was so cool.
