When push button to retract the top it tries really hard to retract, but can't get pas flipping up the front of the top. I have to give it a little push up, and then all is well. The top has no trouble going the other way. Any ideas?

Yeah it happens as the pump and cylinders get old. You can try checking the fluid in the pump make sure its full.

It's definitely full. It seems like more of an adjustment thing. It's like the top is too flat, so the hydraulics are pulling straight back, instead of up. I just need to flip it up just slightly and then all is well. Going the other way, when it gets to this point, it's like the top loses tension and it just falls for that last bit to the windshield, so I usually grab it with my hand to keep it from smashing into the top of the windshield.

Check youR cables and your hinges. Mine used to do this and after almost a year it culminated in one of the arms cracking.

All of the joints in the frame appear to be ok. What do I need to look for with the cables?

Make sure that they aren't bound or hung up.

I had the top installed last fall. Would the cables have been part of the installation?

Ok, I'll take look at the cables and see if there's anything obviously wrong. Otherwise, I'll have to take it back to the shop that did the installation. For $1300 they need to get it right.
