Discovered that the piston on the passenger side that raises and lowers the top has started leaking fluid out the top so I need to replace it. I have a replacement on hand, but what is the best way to get to the old one to get it out and get the new one in? I have the interior panel off so I can see it but not sure how to get to it. Any one have any suggestions as to what to do or not to do? I would like to get it fixed this weekend.

Don't have a vert, but this is the info I have.

Lift Cylinder--Power Top

1. Remove the rear seats and quarter trim panel.

2. Remove the hairpin clip, washer and clevis pin from the upper end of the cylinder.

3. Remove two nuts, retaining piston to the main pivot bracket support, each side of vehicle. Removing nuts will allow piston to be pulled off outside stud.

4. Pull the cylinder down and place an absorbent cloth below the hose connections. Disconnect the hydraulic lines and remove the cylinder.

5. Install the hydraulic lines on the new cylinder and install the cylinder bushings, mounting bracket and nuts.

6. Install the clevis pin, washer and hairpin at the upper end of the cylinder.

7. Operate the top assembly two or three times to bleed any air from the system and check the fluid level in the reservoir. The fluid level should not be less than 6.35mm (1/4 inch) below the filler plug opening. The top must be up when the fluid level is checked.

8. Install the quarter trim panel and rear seats.

Do you do this with top up or in down position??? Or it dioesnt matter??
