I'm buying a nice 97 GT convertible (my second Mustang) next week and the top needs replacing. Using Google isn't helping--I'm getting too many hits and can't figure out what companies and brands are the good quality replacements. Any ideas?

I'm in Maryland, by the way, if anyone knows of a shop that can do a good job on the labor...

Robbins tops are the best. You should let a shop do it but the tops do come with instructions.

Great! I had no idea which brands to focus on.

I got my 97 GT and the top needed replaced. The guy came to my house and installed it for around $1000. I like it a lot. Lifetime warranty

Also, you can choose between canvas or vinyl. Expect to pay 400-600 for vinyl installed and double it for canvas. Canvas is higher maintenance but does not crack.

A vinyl top will crack when it gets old or if it is lowered when it is colder than 60 degrees or so.

I keep hearing about $1000 all told for canvas/install. Guess that's the going rate...

1000 is a reasonable price, you are smart to get canvas.

Your car will look so much better with the new top
