converting my '75 351W to a roller...?

Ok, i want to do the roller conversion on my 351W. I dont want to go the half azz route and have to use a small based circle cam or whatever its called. I want to do it so i can run a standard roller cam. I think its Crane that sells a lifter kit thats like $480 to make a flat tappet engine a roller. Is that all i would need? i know i obviously need the cam, and then pushrods and roller rockers.....but i have also seen that "spider" lifter link bar. But then people said you have to use that small base circle cam and have no cam options at all.. Im confused...haha!

You won't need the spider with the link-bar lifters.

Just buy the lifters and you're converted.

kudos for not going with the reduced base cam

If you buy the nice lifters with the link bar that are made to retrofit an older block like cranes then thats all ya need, grab any roller cam ya want. You only need to use the spider and dogbones if you were going with the small base circle cam and oem roller lifters.

Ok, so if i go with the M-6500-S58 Lifters with the link bar, which are $478.XX from summit, i can run any roller cam for a small block Ford? Let me know what you think of the combo in gunning for here......Im gonna do the roller conversion, swap the stock dished pistons for some flat top 10:1 Keith Black pistons, probably some Victor Jr. Heads with 1:6 roller rockers, 850cfm Demon carb, Weiand Stealth Intake, and a cam somewhere in the .575" lift give or take? what do you guys think.....I am open for suggestions!!!!!! thanks for the help so far!

That lifter part number looks like a ford number?
Does Ford have a set of link bar lifters?
Can you post a link?



Things to look into...
Make sure the CR is acceptable with those pistons and heads.
Make sure you have adequate valve springs in the heads, for whatever cam you use.

If I where to use a FT cam in my HR engine, I would have to swap out cam bearings. The FT cam is smaller than the HR. Would this not constitute changing the bearings out for the HR in a FT engine?

That's almost a little hard to read...I follow what you're thinking, but I haven't the slightest. If I was putting switching from HR to FT or vice versa, I would probably change bearing regardless.

I like your website VRISTANG, good info! so if i go with that lifter kit, i am good to go right!? Also, i was wondering if anyone has had any experience with Canfield heads. I looked on their website and they offer some nice heads with small comb. chambers 54 or 58cc to really get the compression up...

I haven't run my Canfields yet, but they are impressive...
