Hello all,

I have a 95 and the drivers side convertible top cylinder has been leaking, so i took the speaker panel out to look at it. I found that the top fitting of the cylinder was loose, and i tightened it down. Problem is i over tightened it in to the plastic and ended up stripping it a little.

Has any one had any luck buying a oversized fitting adaptor or would it maybe using some thread tape and a nylon washer would hold it?

Any other ideas or am i stuck having to buy a new one for 100$ ?

Thanks!

Are you positive the Fittings Threads are not Stripped a bit, too- not just the Cylinder’s Threads being affected? If so, you can get a new fitting for a few Bucks and add the few extra Wraps of Teflon Tape- that would make for a decent “field” repair.
Get a few Q-tips/Alcohol and slowly & carefully walk it around the Cylinder’s Threads (CCW- as if you were unthreading a Fitting from it) and get all the little pieces of broken Thread out so no more contaminants end up in the Hydraulic Oil. Clean the Fitting’s Threads well, too. Inspect the Threads, insert the fitting and if you can grab some Threads.. If so, Wrap it with Teflon Tape and see how it works. It will not work for long if the threads are wiped out clean- if at all..
Either way- I’d not consider it a permanent repair. Look for a replacement over time at a good Price.. Things like that will near always act up again, I’d looked quick- CJPony Parts has them for 79$ Free Shipping- EBay for 45$- need to verify the Seller has credibility, is legitimate.
It could easily be repaired, but with precision Tools not typically available in the average Home Garage. Try a local Machine Shop. They would likely charge about 20-35$ to repair it, correctly.
Good luck!

Hi, Did I misunderstand this— ? Do you have a Cylinder Hydraulic Fitting Thread that Stripped, or did you mean the pivot Bolt’s point of attachment to the Convertibles Structure that was overtightened, and stripped out that Thread? Please clarify..if the latter is correct, there are a few easy to perform solutions to repair that are both adequate and inexpensive.(?)
