Coolant Refill Help

Hey guys,

I finished flushing my coolant by flushing it with a hose through the thermostat housing without the tstat in and I watched until the water was clear coming out the exit/bottom tube of the waterm pump.

Well, I planned on removing the block drain plugs and filling with 50/50 premixed fluid but getting the drain plugs out was unsuccessful.

Now I have a block full of water. I've done this before and just filled my radiator with 50/50 premix with no issues but realized my ratio is off. I would like to do this properly.

So, how much water is in my block? Or, if I just fill my radiator with straight antifreeze, will this be close to a 50/50 mix with the the straight water that is in the block already? I have a 2 core mishimoto radiator .

No need to overthink it. Remove the lower hose, let all the water drain out. Hook the hose back up. If you live up north fill with 50/50. If you live down south you can do 70/30 water to coolant. Use a Lisle funnel and you can easily burp out all the air. Buy a $5 coolant tester or test strips if you want to check the boiling point.

The biggest thing I'm concerned about is freezing.

The lower rad hose is already off and radiator empty. I just can't get the block empty because I could not get the engine drain plugs loose. So, I will be safe from freezing if I refill my radiator with premixed 50/50 coolant and still have straight water in my block?

I'm not going to say what i did to get my drain plugs out is necessarily the correct way, but....

I used a min torch to warm up around the plugs and was able to get them out. I wasn't trying to get it red hot, just heated it a little, tried to take them off, heated a little more, then they broke loose.

It amazed me how much fluid is left in the block when everything else had been drained.

Why not leave off lower hose, disconnect coil wire so it don't start. Crank motor, water will pump out of water pump. Crank till all comes out. Then replace hose refill rad.

Don't over think it. If your worried just dump a gallon of straight antifreeze and the rest 50/50, should not be a big deal unless your in Alaska. Oh and don't use well water. JMO

Ok, I got one of the drain plugs out and I'll hopefully do the other later today.

Do I just use a thread sealant on it before I install again? What'sthe torque spec?

Hopefully this all helps my rusty coolant.

No sealant needed, 15 lb-ft.

Which plug did you get out?

Passenger side...there's no way I'm getting the driver side out. There's not enough room with my gt40 headers.

A lot of water came out with just the passenger side out though so I'm pretty happy

Yeah, it's crazy how much fluid the block retains, huh?

Since you've got rust, bad by the way. Just to Be safe re drain and flush if you can within a month. Get all that crud out of there. Somebody ran straight water in there. You don't want your baby overheating on you. Theirs good flush products that will help with the rust.
