I am sure this is a topic that has been put up a thousand times, but I am new so here goes....
I need to put a thermostat in my Cobra, PO took it out when he put in an aluminum radiator said he could not get the air out of the system with the thermostat in So I have a new one and am going to put it in Sunday, so do I open up the plug on the crossover pipe that goes around the alt, and fill it there, run the engine and let the air bleed out? Or do I just fill it at the resevoir and bleed out the air there? Seems that the plug on the pipe is just for that purpose, or am I wrong?

You will fill it thru the fill plug at the coolant crossover tube. Leave the coolant resevoir cap off, pour as much coolant as you can into the crossover tube until it reaches the top, in theory by doing this its suppose to get the air out of the system but it never works perfectly. Screw the plug back in, I leave the resevoir cap off, start the engine, put vents on heat just to monitor when the thermostat has fully opened, I let the engine idle the whole time until the thermostat opens.

since you didn't mention it in your post, you might want to do a cooling system flush while you're at it

on cobras the thermostat is located at the bottom , therefore you end up losing your coolant, unless you do what I did the second time around and vicegrip the tube on the bottom before the thermostat housing
