i was wondering how to break a turbo car in. all of my parts are brand new from the internals in the motor, my transmission, and my rear end. i was told not to dog on the car for about 700 miles, and i was also told to crank the car up and let it run for 30min to break the cam in then take it to get dyno tuned. something about nothing will set right if i baby it for 700 miles then start ragging on it

If it is a roller cam let the engine idle and check for leaks, check tune. Run it up and down the block check for leaks in the rear and the trans. Then beat the hell out of it. There use to be a ring seating period, not necessary with todays materials.

If it's a flat tappet cam, that is a whole other story. Todays oils do not have Zinc in them as they did in the past which causes issues with break in, the cam cores are inferior compared to the early days, and depending on what springs you have you may need to remove the inner springs during break in. With all of that being said the break in is conducted for 20-30 minutes at 2000-2500 rpm. If this is not done correctly, and sometimes even if it is done correctly, the lobes can get wiped out.

well its a ford racing e303 cam. so wat you are saying is even with it untuned with the turbo set up on run it up and down the block and dog on it. or wait until i get it dyno tuned first

Now where was the turbo part of your question? Your question asked about the 700 mile easy driving junk somebody told you.

Roller cam, no break in needed, and of course you are going to need to tune it before you rape it.

drive the car around only to make sure the car runs and doesnt leak , then its right over to the dyno to be tuned. then you'll be good to go

I still use break in oil (Joe Gibbs Racing or Royal Purple) or atleast the break in additive (basically zinc since your standard oils are missing all of the good stuff nowdays) that helps everything seat. Once it is up and running and leaks and all vitals are checked, I would do 4-5 pulls up to 4000rpm to help seat the rings. If it is a Hellfire top rin it make take a little longer to seat.

If you are using a large injector the issue is with out it being adjusted it could wash out the rings if it's dumping fuel. If you are runing a chip it might be good to have them burn you a start-up tune.

well i thought about getting a mail order tune before i took it to the dyno that way it would be a little safer to drive before getting it tuned.
