Afternoon gentlemen. Due to the recent passing of my grandmother we are getting grandpas old cars out of their twenty five year storage. We are selling the 65 coupe, 6 cylinder 3 speed. I will post that one up shortly. However due to sentimental reasons we may keep his 66 convertible and have it restored. We'd probably have a professional do it and was wondering a general cost. The following is an appraisal we had done earlier this year and hopefully you can give me a ballpark figure from the work described. Thanks in Advance.

Appraisal Notes: Nice, original unmolested vehicle. Original paint and appointments. Some parking lot and other minor damage to sides. some body panel rust. Floors and inner skirts are rust infested but frame is solid. Good original pony interior with minor faults. Convertible top is good but rear zipper window needs replaced. New battery starts car instantly and vehicle runs and drives excellent. Its a 20 footer. Good driveable vehicle needing no immediate work.

Appraisal is based on condition of vehicle at time of inspection.

Thanks in advance guys the appraisal came in at $11,800.

I would say that's a reasonable price but that depends on how the final product looks too. Maybe get a few other estimates and shop it around.

Without seeing pictures of the car it is hard though to tell how much work it takes to restore so maybe snap a few shots.

I'll grab some pictures when we pull it out of storage. $11,800 was the appraised value of the car itself not the cost to fix it. Although I fully expect $10k plus if I pay someone to do the work.

oh haha I was way off then. Honestly restorations can get expensive when paying someone else. From the rust issues it seems to have with the floors etc I would guess it's gonna be a pretty decent penny.

I would look into maybe doing what work you can yourself and having body work etc done by professionals. That will save lots in labor and you can spread it out over time.
