Could a bad dimmer cause blown dash fuses?

I noticed that the dimmer does not work anymore. The dash lights will come on only when the dimmer is turned all the way (to turn on the courtesy light). I blow the two dash fuses (I can't remember the location numbers) whenever I rev the motor past 3500 or so. I can get a replacement dimmer, but does anyone think I have a bigger problem? I have a 3g alternator.

Since you are probably not the original owner, someone else has wired something into the dimmer circuit that has burned up the dimmer. You get to start looking for "add on" items like gauges, stereo, alarms, etc. One of them is probably wired to the dimmer and is causing your problem.

There's nothing wired to the dimmer circuit - I've done all the wiring since the car was new. I have a couple of gauges but they're all fed by a separate 8ga wire coming directly from the battery.

Is something wrong with my alt that would cause my dash fuses to blow when revs get past a certain point (like 3500 or so)? Perhaps a voltage regulator?
